Abstrak

Viruses mutate and evolve very rapidly, antiviral agent resistance is emerging as a growing public health problem around the world. The demand for new antiviral agents is increasing as a potential source of new drugs and alternative drugs that are currently being used. Various literature describes the potential of lactic acid bacteria (LAB) and bacteriocins as antiviral agents. LAB probiotics can promote health for the human body by (1) direct probiotic-virus interactions; (2) production of antiviral inhibiting metabolites; and / or (3) through stimulation of the immune system. The purpose of this article is to examine the potential for LAB that produce antiviral activity.
